Sessions are defined in Eastern time, so the page converts your clock to New York through the browser's own timezone database — the same for every visitor, correct across the March and November daylight-saving switches, and no hardcoded UTC offset.

Outside those windows, and all day on weekends and dated full closes, the market is closed. On an early-close day the regular session ends at 13:00 ET and the rest of that day reads closed, since afternoon extended-hours cover varies by venue.

Extended hours are not the regular session: participation is much thinner, so spreads are wider and the same order moves the price further. Many brokers restrict order types outside the regular session — market orders can be rejected and stop orders may not trigger. Weather, technical-halt and mourning closures are not listed, and the table stops at 2027.
